COSTUME AND FEMININITY

The Language of Flowers established its notoriety in the Victorian age.

It parallels my love for the costume in this era, where lace reigned, and femininity was expressed in the clothing. Sexuality was not discussed and was private, even a closed topic in intimate relationships, but ironically, it escaped in the female costume of the day.

The feminine manner and allure was also a tabor or forbidden topic during my upbringing. In my experience being brought up Catholic, sexuality was repressed and pushed down.

It was later in life, through my work, that these topics latently bloomed like flowers. I could capture the essence, the beauty, of a woman in photography to honor all parts of her sensuality, our most authentic nature.

Through the lens, I am to exercise the questions and lessons of my life.
