POWERS ART CENTER

Powers Art Center (A delightfull Journey!)

As I traveled through the silent entrance passing the cattle guards and old rusty farm implements to be thrust into the Power’s Art Center majestic beauty. It is truly jaw-dropping to witness the incredible artistic genius of the Japanese architect, Hiroshi Nanamori. It is genius to take this barren landscape and use it as a blank canvas to create such artistry. His minimalist design integrates stone pergolas and reflecting pools that frame the view of Mount Sopris. Each vignette is an eloquent presentation, a magical slide show, with every turn of the eye. Each portal frames the existing landscape into a new image. When entering into the museum itself, one is stunned. The space is an homage to printmaking and mid-century American art. Specifically showcasing an elaborate collection of works on paper by the American artist, Jasper Johns. Johns is considered to be one of the most influential contemporary artists of 20th-century modern art. I frequently visit the Powers Art Center, whether to dip my toes in the infinity pool, or to sometimes just breathe in the majesty of this creation, and be forever grateful for its proximity to my home. I am so in awe that a human can achieve such greatness in design and fill in my heart with divine inspiration.
